There have been many stories throughout the decades surrounding the famous Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire, England on a high cliffs by a sea. The Abbey was an ancient holly site and there was once a burial site for kings at the Abbey.
Whitby Abbey has a great amount of history behind it, and it also use to be a sea port associated with Captain cook. You may also recall

the famous stairway to the parish church that inspired the greatest horror novel to be written by Bram Stokers with his well-known book Dracula that he wrote in the summer of 1890 on his three week holiday.
In Bram Stocker's diaries we could see how much he was impressed with the remoteness and romanticism of North Yorkshire and he was amazed with the mysterious ruins that stands of the Abbey in the strange evening night. He was also amazed with the bats that would circle the church tower.
There also have been known haunting stories along with many others as well. The first one is a little disturbing about a nun whose name was Constance de Beverley. Apparently at the time she had fallen in love with a false Knight Marmion, and she had violated her vows who forswore her nuns vows. Constance was condemned to be bricked alive in the Whitby Abbey dungeon. She can be seen sometimes cowering and pleading on the winding stairway facing towards daylight.
The other ghost haunting is apparently of a ghost of St. Hilda she was the daughter of the Abbeys founder. She can be seen at night silhouetted against one of the windows.
Another sighting is on an apparition of an old coach being pulled by four
Bram Stokers (1847-1912) writer of the famous terrifying horror novel Dracula.

headless horses racing along the cliff top near the Abbey. Then at the end of the cliff it finally plunges into the dark water bellow.
And to this day Whitby Abbey holds all of its history, haunting tales, and the book that made it famous of Dracula written by Bram Stocker. There's not to much of it today but Whitby Abbey is a well-known tourist attraction around the world for its tourist that it brings in every year.
