The Lurker is a carnivorous scavenger who is only found in subterranean settings or climates. It resembles a large manta ray and has a grayish belly which has the texture of stone. Most often, the Lurker will attach itself to a ceiling where they are very difficult to detect.
Lurkers are slow moving, so they must sit and wait for their prey to come within range, then they detach themselves from the ceiling, dropping onto their prey and quickly wrap around them. Once the Lurker has dropped, it will not stop attacking until it's prey is dead.
Lurkers are solitary creatures, the females lay eggs in a glutinous clutch or hatch near the ceiling. The offspring will fall to the ground once hatched and feed off vermin until it becomes large enough to fly. A Lurker's young resembles a small patch of moss on the ground, only they are similar grayish in color whereas moss is normally green.
Lurkers are flight enabled due to sacs full of gas. They cannot fly for extended periods of time and they never attack anything while in flight. They can be killed by small jabbing from a dagger or a short sword but only if the victim has it in hand upon attack.
