A Haunt is the restless spirit of a person who has died, leaving behind a vital task that they must complete in order to find eternal rest. A Haunt's sole purpose is to take over a living body and use it long enough to complete its task.
Haunts may assume two forms. One is a hovering ball of luminescent light, or as a nebulous, translucent image of the haunt's former body. While in the nebulous form, Haunt's look like groaning spirits, specters or ghosts and are quite often mistaken for them.
A Haunt is limited however, it must remain within 60 yards of where it died unless it can take over a human body. The 60 yard radius is called the "Haunt's domain" and if a human steps within that 60 yards, the haunt can then claim it's body. The Haunt will attack instantly once its domain has been entered, and it will continue to attack until possession has been achieved, or until the victim escapes the domain boundaries.
Two kinds of Haunts can exist, the good Haunt, and the evil Haunt. If the person whose body the Haunt claims to complete its task has an opposite alignment than the Haunt, the Haunt will try to destroy the body. Normally by using the victims own hands to strangle it. If a good Haunt claims a person whose alignment is evil, the good Haunt will complete the task and then attempt to destroy the evil body before releasing it.
Once the Haunt's task is completed, it then passes through the victim's body and goes on to it's final resting place, leaving the body behind. The victim slowly regains full control of its body and mind and usually no-one is hurt in the process.
