It is Friday June 13th 1980 and Camp Crystal lake is getting ready to reopen, after years closed down due to mysterious deaths. A group of teenage counselors and their leader go ahead in trying to get the Camp ready for its opening, despite warnings from locals that the Camp is cursed.

Night falls over the camp and the counselors start to be picked off one by one. The team leader is out in town drinking at a café and does not realize what is happening back at the Camp. Has the team leader sets off back to the Camp his car breaks down and he has to hitch a lift back to the Camp, but he unwittingly grabs a hitch off the killer.

Back at the Camp there is only one survivor left and she decides to barricade herself into her dormitory in order to survive while someone turns up to rescue her. When a car pulls up she quickly unblocks the doors and runs out in hope for help to get away from the killer. Will the stranger be able to help her or will the killer arrive and finish them both off…..

Friday the 13th keeps you in suspense from start to finish, with plenty of set piece death scenes by the master of gore make up effects Tom Savinni. It has also spawned 9 more sequels (and many imitations) with more on the way, and it happens to be one of the best of the 80's slasher movies. It also lay born to Jason although he only played a small part in this the first of the series. Look out for Kevin Bacon in 1 of his early movie roles. All in all a thoroughly recommended film.
