Our movie stars off in a TV News Station. All hell has broken lose. Everybody is scurrying around from one place to another, while a man tries to conduct an interview with a local scientist. The station's pilot, Stephen, comes down and tell his girlfriend, Francine who also works at the station, that they are going to be leaving that night by helicopter. We then cut to an apartment complex which a SWAT team has surrounded. They're there for a bunch of criminals who have took refuge inside the building. After a couple of minutes some of the criminals come out shooting and the SWAT team makes easy work out of them. They then storm the building, going from room to room gathering everybody up. They soon run into some zombies. After all is said and done one of the members, Roger, tells another member, Peter, that he is leaving with his friend who fly's a helicopter. Peter decides to join Roger and the others in getting the hell out of Dodge. The two meet up with Stephen and Francine at a local police station where Stephen stops to get fuel. After a brief encounter with some hooligans the four take off.

They fly around for awhile then have to land at some little airport to refuel. While they run into some zombies but manage to take off again with little trouble. They soon come upon a shopping mall with some zombies walking about and decide to land for some supplies. After landing they decide to stay around for awhile and come up with plans on how to get the supplies and get rid of those nasty zombies. They come up with a plan to barricade and lock the front doors. They find some trailers that they use to barricade the doors, but in the process of doing so, Roger is bitten. They go back inside and lock all the outer doors and then begin to go around killing all the zombies one by one that are left in the mall. After that is done they are able to roam around the mall freely. They spend the time shopping and doing things that people normally do at a mall. Unfortunately the time comes when Roger's situation has to be dealt with. They spend at least the next couple of months inside the mall, cause we finally see Francine getting bigger. She's carrying Stephen's baby we found out earlier in the film. But after being cooped up in the mall all that time, things start getting tense between Stephen and Francine. So they decide to head out in the near future.

That night though they are attacked by a bunch of looters. They bust into the mall and start taking anything that they can get their hands on. They also spend alot of time fighting with the zombies that they let get into the mall. Stephen doesn't like the fact that the looters are taking 'his' things, so he begins to open fire at them, which cause them to return fire. In the process Stephen is wounded. The looters finally decide it's time to get out of there. Soon Stephen is attacked by a bunch of zombies. Peter can't save him, so he decides to head back up to their hiding room, where Francine finds out what happened. Francine wants to leave but Peter just stands in the stairwell, waiting. Then we see Stephen make his zombie presence known. Peter tells Francine to get the hell out here while he stays back. Well I'll leave the ending open for you, so you'll have to see this, if you haven't already, to find out how this one ends.

I always thought Night of the Living Dead was the better Romero zombie movie, but that was before I saw Dawn of the Dead. I believe this movie tops NOTLD. Romero proves again that he is one of the better directors out there, and writer as far as I'm concerned. I thought he did a fine job on writing this. I enjoyed the story very much. To have it take place in a shopping mall was brilliant. I've always wanted to be able to just roam around a deserted mall and to have it all to myself. There where some great scenes where you didn't know if our hero's where going to make it or not. Tom Savini did a great job on some of the makeup and special effects. It had some cool gore shots in it as well. And Goblins music put that little something extra into the mix.

Lets talk about some of the zombies. The two zombie children that Peter encounters at the airport when they stop for fuel really freaked me out. There's something disturbing about small children as zombies don't you think? But then again children always disturb me. The hare krishna zombie was pretty cool too. Cudo's to Romero for thinking up a zombie like that. Well the only other one that stands out in my mind at the moment is the one you see always carrying the gun by the barrel, he was comical.

I'm ashamed to say that this is the first time I've seen this movie, but now I know why so many people sing its praises. A great all around zombie flick, that I would recommend to anybody.
