Though the Cockatrice stands only as a high as a normal size of an everyday turkey, it is a very formidable opponent and will attack anything or anyone who it believes is a threat to its lair. The Cockatrice's feathers are a dark brown in color, but it's waffles, comb and eyes are all bright red. The head and body of the Cockatrice are that of a gamecock, but its wings are very much like those of a bat, while its tail is long and partially scaly like a lizard, with a feather tip at the very end.

Cockatrice's are immune to the stone spell of their own kind, they cannot be petrified since they carry that specific ability themselves. They are very difficult to defeat in combat because though short, they can run and dodge at great speeds. If the beak of the Cockatrice touches its victim, it is instantly fatal. However, if the victim is wearing armor or metal, the beak cannot pierce through that and gives the victim a greater chance of escape. Cockatrice's thrive mainly in the wilderness and do not stray far from the lairs which they have built, therefore the only way to really ever come into contact with these strange looking creatures is if you happen to unluckily stumble into their lair.
