This has 3 short stories in it. We start off in a morgue with none other
than John Carpenter himself as a sickly looking coroner. He's our story teller for the evening, cracking jokes and leading us into each film.
'The Gas Station'
Directed by: John Carpenter
Staring:
Bill--Robert Carradine
Anne--Alex Datcher
This segment takes place at a, you guessed it, gas station. Bill is working
at the station when Anne comes up, for her first day of work there. He shows
her the ropes and takes off. She gets settle in when a strange man, played
by Wes Craven, knocks on the window for a pack of smokes. Hits on her and takes off. Next up is Pete, played by David Naughton, who pays for some gas and leaves, forgetting his credit card. After dealing with a homeless man and another couple who stopped for gas, she sees the truck lift operating so she goes and checks it out of course. There inside the truck she finds the homeless man, dead. The killer soon makes his prescence know and chases Anne around for awhile. She's able to beat him back a couple of times, but he just keeps coming. She runs around, soon returning back to the garage. She jumps into the truck and makes the lifts raise in the hopes of getting out of reach of the killer. Pete, discovering that he left his credit card comes back and struggles with the killer a little while before getting knocked out. Then Anne finally comes up with a way to dispose of the maniac. I won't tell you who the killer was or how Anne stopped him.
I thought this was a pretty good short story. Carpenter did a good job on it, in my opinion. Great cameo's. A couple of spooks, nothing great, but effective when you're all alone working at a gas station in the middle of the night. Overall I liked this story.

'Hair'
Directed by: John Carpenter
Staring:
Richard Coberts--Stacey Keach
Dr. Lock--David Warner
Megan--Sheena Easton
This a story about a man, Robert Coberts, who is absolutely obsessed with his thinning hair. The first half of the story is basically nothing but Robert and his girlfriend, Megan, fighting about his hair! He tries everything to help get his hair to growing again. Nothing works. Then one night he sees a commerical with Dr. Lock who claims he can regrow hair. So Robert goes in and gets a special solution applied to his hair. The next morning he wakes up with a full mane of hair past his shoulders. It keeps growing each day and he starts feeling sick. One day he wakes up with his face covered in hair, so he runs back to Dr. Lock to find out what is happening to him. Dr. Lock explains to him that the hair is aliens, feasting
on human brains! That's pretty much the end, nothing to exciting about this story.
I normally like Warner and Keach, but I didn't care to much for them in this one.Nothing really good to say about this one!

'The Eye'
Directed by: Tobe Hooper
Staring:
Brent Matthews--Mark Hamil
Cathy Matthews--Twiggy
This story is about Brent Matthews who's an amateur baseball player with hopes of making it to the big leagues. One night after a game, while driving home,Brent gets into an accident and a piece of glass pierces his eye. He wakes up in a hospital where he's told that he lost his right eye. Later he's introduced to a Dr. Lang, who says he can transplant a new eye for Brent. He decides to have the operation and it's successful. Brent's able to see once again out of his right eye. But he starts suffering from headaches and seeing bright flashes. When he finally gets home he starts seeing even stranger stuff, like dead bodies. He starts acting crazy at times, so he goes to see the doctor to ask where he got the eye from. The doctor tells him he got it from an executed inmate. Brent then goes to the library and researches the killers past. He soon realizes why he's seeing the things he's seeing. When he gets back home he finally goes crazy, attacking his wife. And I can't tell you the ending, you have to see this one!
I liked this story as well. I thought Tobe Hooper did a nice job on it. I actually like Mark Hamil in this, I normally don't like any other movie he's in, with the exception of the Star Wars movies, of course! But I thought he did a good job, and it was fun to see Hamil play a somewhat demented character. I like the ending to this, and I also liked some of the visuals, such as the flashes of the corpses and the like. Pretty good stuff I might say.
9/10
Then at the end we see the corner again, and we find out why he's so sickly looking! I won't give it away. The we see an appearance by Tom Arnold and Tobe Hooper. Overall I liked this movie. I like the morgue parts with Carpenter, even with his lame jokes! This whole thing had a kind of 'Tales From the Crypt' vibe to it. I enjoyed the cameo's it had. The whole thing is good, with the exception of 'Hair'If you ever see this at the rental place, pick it up.
